Contour was designed to provide edge-to-edge functionality in any drawer and in any size. Contour’s unique Trim-to-Fit installation ensures the whole drawer is utilized – both functionally and aesthetically.

When planning to use Contour in your closet designs, it is good to understand how it is installed and the sizing requirements from component to component.

Drawer Size

Typically we refer to drawer sizes by the SPACE they are being placed into such as a 24″ or 36″ wide section with 16″ or 20″ deep partitions.

The physical size of the drawer front and the interior dimensions of the drawer box vary depending on style of front, material thickness, and by individual closet company standards.

Contour products are based on this SPACE dimension however the actual product size is based on the interior measurements of a typical drawer for that space.

For example: A 36″ drawer for a 16″ shelf depth has been selected to receive a Contour Jewelry Organizer.

The Contour Jewelry Organizer is designated as up to 36″ however the actual size of the components are  34 7/16″ (570mm) Width x 14 7/16″ (366mm) Depth to fit maximum internal dimensions of 34 1/2″ x 14 1/2″. Note that the size difference of approx. 1/16″ allows for some room for alignment and moving components freely.

These maximum dimensions do not limit the use of Contour on smaller drawers as Contour can be placed in any size drawer through simple re-sizing of the materials.

Contour organizers will fit any drawer size 36″ x 20″ and under. 

Trim-to-Fit

Simple installation to fit any size drawer.

The channels and dividers can be cut with a fine toothed saw blade and the liners are easily trimmed with a razor knife.

Drawer liners are constructed of soft, strong faux leather and can be trimmed with a utility knife. Trim 2mm shorter than width and depth to ensure proper fit.

Trim organizer insert channels with a fine tooth saw blade – typically 2mm shorter than drawer depth to allow for smooth adjustments.

Drawer dividers are wood material wrapped in faux leather.  These can be trimmed with a fine tooth saw to fit any drawer depth.

A saw blade will easily trim the divider rails – cut with the rail channel UP.

Contour is designed to fit and function in any drawer. This gives a designer one less thing to worry about and one more thing to enhance their closet designs.

How hardware finish selection can help you sell more closets.

Let’s analyze the following scenario:

You are assigned to a new lead – it’s a consultation for a reach-in closet and it’s this client’s first time shopping for a custom closet.

Think back at the first time you did something for the first time. It can be intimidating!

I guarantee your client has many questions about the buying process, fulfillment, options available… What is double hanging? What is a reach-in? What about return walls? Chances are, when you started designing closets, you didn’t know much about these topics either.

Other concerns floating around your client’s mind could be:

• Will all my clothes fit in here?
• Is the designer going to be able to address all this mess?
• Is this going to be in my budget?
• What makes me different than the company that came yesterday?

On top of that, there are all the decisions that need to be made in regard to a custom closet; here are a few:

OK, now that you have the context of what clients are looking for, let’s explore how you can make the process easier for them.

Look for cues in the environment

The client’s home is the perfect environment to give you cues about their preference. Every home has metal elements, such as:

These items give you cues on your client’s preferences, and we are often exposed to these details throughout the house, even before getting to the closet.

Here are great speaking prompts to start the hardware finish conversation:

“I see that gold is the predominant finish for the hardware in your bathroom. Is this something you’d like to carry into your closet design?”

Or, back to our reach-in-closet example:

“I noticed that your door hardware is matte aluminum. Would you like the metal parts of your closet to have the same finish tone?”

These prompts work not only when designing closets; they can also be used when addressing other spaces in the home. Find an anchor (the predominant finish), and leverage it to connect with the customer.

TAG identified black and gold as the most popular finishes and Belwith Keeler found popularity with two gold shades and Gunmetal.
